For some reason, stories about pirates are not that popular among gamers be it PC or mobile fans. A lot of things have changed after Ubisoft released the one and only Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Fighting pirates and robbing ships have never been so exciting. That gave the pirate theme a certain burst but still there’s been a lot of questions regarding the mobile sphere. Partially, that was covered by the Assassin’s Creed Pirates mobile application that happens to be an official alternative of the Black Flag on Android and iOS. The game is not new but there are a couple of reasons I would like to talk about it and one of those reasons is that the game is being offered for free right now.
Assassin’s Creed Pirates is Free for Android and iOS Devices
Yes, you can visit either the Google Play of the App Store, type in Assassin’s Creed Pirates and get it for free. Though, the trick is that this game, like lots of other mobile games, happens to be based on donation. Luckily, there is still a place for honest and independent gaming but it will take some time, so get prepared for it. However, just a couple of weeks ago Assassin’s Creed Pirates would cost you 5$ with the very same donating principle that, of course, seems to be ridiculous. Anyway, the ‘Free’ tag is there for now, so if you are in need for something special and something unlike other games on the web for mobile platforms, this is a perfect solution to keep your fingers busy.
Assassin’s Creed Pirates Offers Alternative Gameplay
Assassin’s Creed Pirates won its popularity because of the gameplay peculiarities. It’s a not a runner and definitely not another clone of something. You happen to be a captain of a ship (which one – it’s up for you to decide) and, as a tough guy, you are in chase for glory, money and profit. That is why you sail the ocean and seek for weak and angry ships that might have something on a board. Though, you are not a regular pirate and, if I may, not a pirate at all. Sure, you sink ships that are hostile but you never attack ships with peaceful citizens or some trading vessels just for fun. There is a certain code of honesty you follow and that code does not allow you to do stupid things.
There is one thing I need to inform you: Assassin’s Creed Pirates is not like any other Assassin’s Creed game, meaning that you won’t be able to play as an assassin. However, it doesn’t seem to be crucial for the game: spending your whole time in the open sea while chasing ships and hiding from powerful armadas is fun too. At this point you start to think that game developers should have named the game a different way. Probably, they should have, but otherwise they won’t get that many likes, shares and downloads. The only thing that connects Assassin’s Creed Pirates with the entire concept of Assassin’s Creed titles is the idea of assassinating targets. But again – this will happen by passing unnoticed near their guard ships and by sinking down the target one.
Assassin’s Creed Pirates and the Mission Styles
As far as the game is water based, all the missions are water related. Here’s how it goes in Assassin’s Creed Pirates. At first, you appear at a certain locations which has a couple of islands and a number of missions open for you. Among the variety of interactive spots, only one of them is scenario based. After completing it – you will be able to travel to the next location. However, that is not something you want to do if there is a goal to complete Assassin’s Creed Pirates on 100% and to upgrade your ship faster.
You see, as lot like PC and console based games, Assassin’s Creed Pirates also offers a challenging chases for collectibles. Even though the game is a representative of mobile platforms, the number of collectibles is really big, not to speak about small challenges and tasks that appear on a map randomly. Sometimes, you have to spend hours swimming here and there to catch the desired target. I, personally, didn’t like the way it was offered to the gamer. I do like searching the collectibles but not when there are too many of them at every level. Besides, the rewards you get for doing such missions and picking up items are miserable if compared to the ships’ prices. But, you will be able to figure that out for yourself.
Assassin’s Creed Pirates vs Tempest
Probably, because of the Assassin’s Creed Pirates or maybe because of some other reasons, in the closest future a Russian development company will release a sea based game called Tempest. So far you can’t even play its beta version but based on some videos that leaked to the web, Tempest is going to be something pretty much alike Assassin’s Creed Pirates but only when we speak about the gameplay.
First of all, Tempest will have a lot better graphics. Not that I’m bragging, but Ubisoft could have made the animations better and the world a lot more realistic. Sure, the game has been available for download for quite some time already but still – I expected more. At the same time – Tempest looks like a lot different title with enormous worlds and incredible possibilities. But wait – there is more.
Tempest takes place in some kind of fictional world where everything is possible and shooting cannon with regular cannon balls is not original. Magic, mystical creatures and a lot more will be waiting for you when the game becomes real. Adding a decent pinch of unusual possibilities is definitely something gamers would appreciate. It’s like adding more cream to the favorite pie or more cheese to your kind of pizza.
Tempest on the Way. Assassin’s Creed Pirates – Do Something!
Even though the game is in its development stage, it already looks better than the Assassin’s Creed Pirates. If the Ubisoft creation is more like a toy game, Tempest looks a lot more serious because of the graphics, realistic and real time fights. There will be a video included in the end to give you the idea of how Tempest will look like and I promise – you will be surprised.
Sure – both games can’t compete with each other because they are too different to fit in one category, but they represent one genre that kind of puts some responsibility on their shoulders. Assassin’s Creed Pirates was the first representative of the group and if they want to keep their fans, they are in urgent need to create something at least that good, though – I doubt they are into mobile gaming that much. On the other hand – Tempest is already on the move and if the development team keeps the game that good and does not spoil it with extra donating system or else – things are going to work out pretty well.
So, while you are waiting for Tempest to become available for download that, by the way, is going to happen by the end of 2014, you can challenge yourself in some other sea battles created by Ubisoft for your pirating needs. AAAAAAAAaaaRRRRRrrrrrrrr and have a nice voyage.
